The 16th Annual Meeting of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) was held at Xiamen International Conference Center from Sep.25 to 29th, 2013. At the same time, it was grandly held the 1st International Conference of Federation of Asian Clinical Oncology (FACO) on Sep.26, 2013. It was not only a grand meeting gathering clinical oncologists from Asian and the whole world to communicate and learn leading knowledge about Cancer Treatment, but also a magnificent event revealing research achievement and development about Clinical Oncology.

The theme of the meeting was “Strengthen cooperation, Continuous innovation”. With 59 workshops, 2 Asian symposiums, 44 satellite meetings and 6 breakfast meetings, it attracted more than 12,000 oncologists from both home and abroad to share and communicate about the latest research results and about 1,300 academic papers.

First of all, it was an international academic conference.

The 1st International Conference of Federation of Asian Clinical Oncology (FACO) was held in conjunction with the 16th Annual Meeting of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology. FACO is an international professional academic organization co-launched, co-organized and co-participated by CSCO, Japan Society of Clinical Oncology (JSCO) and Korean Association for Clinical Oncology (KACO). It aimed to make a good communication and do research of high-incidence tumor in Asia.

Many well-known professors of clinical oncology and senior staffs of international association in oncology were invited to attend the meeting, such as Prof. Peter Yu, the president-elect of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Mr. Doug Pyle, senior director of ASCO, Prof. Rolf Stahel, the president-elect of European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), Prof. Martin Murphy, chairman of Society for Translational Oncology (STO), Prof. Jon Wigginton, expert of Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC), Ms. Tara Withington, Executive Director of SITC and Prof. Jean-Pierre Armand,  president of the French Cancer Society (SFC) etc.

Secondly, the meeting particularly paid attention to clinical research.

With the guidance and support of many senior clinical oncologists, like Prof. Mengchao Wu, Prof. Yan Sun, Prof. Meilin Liao, Prof. Zhongzhen Guan etc., CSCO mainly focused on further education during the past years, which paved the way for many domestic and international clinical researches and gained a lot precious experience and important data. Nowadays, the annual meeting of CSCO gradually becomes an important platform for releasing study information on clinical oncology in Asian-Pacific region. The results of dozens of domestic and international multi-center clinical study were released in the annual meeting of CSCO this year, including those from international famous pharmaceutical enterprises, and also some from national pharmaceutical enterprises. It shows the continuous innovation and up-rising of Chinese enterprises.

Thirdly, diversity of academic activities satisfied demands of participants from different levels.

The meeting delivered that it was crucial to give similar importance to both general meeting and symposium. We not only gave consideration to dynamic report of domestic and international academic activities, but attached importance to in-depth exploration of hot topics in tumor area. CSCO includes 18 committees of experts who gave full play to organize symposium and discuss the hot and difficulty topics hoping to share and spread the new idea, new knowledge and new technique about clinical oncology.

At the same time, CSCO has strengthened academic communication and promoted friendship between many Chinese experts both in home and abroad. For example, CSCO joined hands with Chinese American Hematologists and Oncologists Network (CAHON), US Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (USCACA) and other Chinese scholars who study in Europe and America to conduct forum on new drugs development and evaluation; CSCO also held seminar about the progress of liver cancer diagnosis and treatment with scholars in Taiwan. Moreover, CSCO held the immunotherapy seminar with SITC and CAHON and the summit forums of lymph adenoma with those in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Last but not least, this meeting further embodied tenets of CSCO --- let clinical oncologists from different ages join hands to achieve “first in academic, first in public benefit, first in service and first in dedication”.
